Kate McKnight, Ph.D.

Chief Clinical Officer

My Why

For decades I’ve worked to identify and improve therapies that help teenagers define and conquer their personal goals, while minimizing the impact of anxiety on their functioning. I envision a world in which all teenagers in need have the opportunity to access exceptional care. As a psychologist and parent of three, I cannot think of a better mission.

Kate McKnight, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy. She is an expert in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders among children, adolescents and adults. For the past 10 years, Kate focused on the application of evidence-based intervention within a private practice setting. She founded a specialty practice located in New York City and Westchester, offering both individual therapy and family-based treatment.

Prior to launching a private practice, Kate spent nearly a decade in academic medical centers and clinical research settings. She joined the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and served as an Instructor of Clinical Psychology at Columbia University Medical Center/NY Presbyterian. Kate was a senior psychologist at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders where she specialized in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and behavioral disorders.

As part of an ongoing effort to evaluate and disseminate evidence-based treatment, Kate provided both assessment and treatment in seminal research investigations funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, including the Child and Adolescent Multimodal Study, Pediatric OCD Treatment Study II, and Treatment of Adolescent Suicide Attempters. Further, Kate served as a consultant for the New York State Office of Mental Health’s Evidence Based Treatment Dissemination Center, providing supervision of Trauma-Focused CBT as well as parent training for behavioral disorders. In order to support ongoing growth and development in the field, Kate continues to train psychology externs, interns and psychiatry fellows on evidence-based treatment practices.

Kate graduated with Honors in Psychology from Duke University, where she later returned to obtain a Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology. Kate completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Kate is a proud Duke graduate and continues to support the educational experience of both graduate and undergraduate students. She served on the Duke University Graduate School Board of Visitors, assuming the role as co-chair for her final 3 years. She continues to devote her time to the Annual Fund Advisory Board. Kate started her career as an educator and is an alumnus of the Teach for America Program.

Kate lives in Chappaqua, NY with her husband, 3 children and 2 dogs. She loves running and cycling, but she spends most of her free time cheering for her children on the soccer, lacrosse, and baseball fields.
